North Vancouver, B.C. October 26, 2023 – Capilano University (CapU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Laura Kinderman (she/her), PhD, as the University’s new dean, Faculty of Business & Professional Studies.

Kinderman comes to CapU from Queen’s University, where she served in a variety of roles over the past 15 years, most recently as the assistant dean of education innovation and online programs in the Faculty of Law.

Reporting to the VP Academic & Provost, Kinderman will provide academic leadership and strategic direction for the Schools of Business, Legal Studies and Communications within the faculty.

“Laura brings a unique blend of experiences as an educator, researcher and academic leader,” says Laureen Styles, EdD, VP academic & provost, Capilano University. “Her innovation and leadership will be integral to collaborative partnerships and the pursuit of excellence in teaching, learning and research.”

Kinderman has worked collaboratively with faculties and schools at Queen’s University in leading the creation of new innovative programs, furthering interprofessional teaching and learning initiatives and building inter- and multidisciplinary teams. In 2017, she was awarded the H.F. Pross Award for Demonstrated Leadership in the Innovative Use of Educational Technology.

With a varied teaching background, Kinderman has taught literature and writing, interprofessional education, teaching and learning in higher education, collaborative practice, and adult basic education. She has published in the areas of research ethics, program development, teaching awards, healthcare quality, and romantic literature. Her expertise as an educator, researcher and educational developer is complemented by the leadership roles she has held at Queen’s University in the Centre for Teaching and Learning, the Faculty of Health Sciences, and the Faculty of Law.

Kinderman holds an Executive MBA and a PhD in English from Queen’s University. She is a Certified Executive Coach (CEC) and Associate Certified Coach (ACC) and serves on the board of directors of the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education.
