CapU Minors Framework

The following framework establishes the eligibility requirements and conditions for the completion and awarding of minors at Capilano University. See individual program descriptions for the course requirements associated with a specific minor.

  • Any student enrolled in a bachelor’s degree at CapU can declare a minor within a defined area of study outside of the student’s honours, major or baccalaureate degree program.
  • Minors require a minimum of fifteen (15) upper-level credits within a defined area of study outside of a student’s honours, major, or baccalaureate program in accordance with Senate Policy S2020-01 – Academic Credentials.
  • Students transferring to CapU must complete a minimum of 50% of their program courses credits at Capilano University, the majority of which will normally fulfill the requirements of their final years of study.
  • A major-minor consists of the major requirements of one subject and the minor requirements of another subject with the framework of a single degree.
  • A double minor consists of the minor requirements of each of two subjects within the framework of a single degree.
  • Aligned with the degree requirements established in the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science frameworks, students completing a double minor will meet their Cap Core Professional Practice (6.00) requirement by taking CAPS 499 – Degree Portfolio (Capstone 3.00) and an Experiential course (3.00) of their choice.
  • Students may re-use courses in fulfilling requirements for their minor(s).
  • All minors must be declared on or before the submission of a graduation application.
  • There is no limit to the number of minors a student can obtain; however, students cannot earn additional minors as part of a credential that has already been awarded.
  • Successful completion of a minor will be recorded on a student’s CapU official transcript.
